Ekaette (The Maid)

As Shola gave a full account of what has been happening in her home in the past few weeks , she could not help but cry.

Shola; a hard working woman who by virture of her job is not always around, she gets home late in the night, leave very early in the morning. She even goes to work on Saturdays. Sunday is the only day in the week she spends with her family.

Fola, her husband on the other hand works with the government, thereby having more time at home and with the children. He leaves home late in the morning after the chidren must have gone to school and gets home early right before the children come back from school. He attends to most of the needs of the chidren. Their marriage is blessed with two grown up children, Fola (jnr) , 18 and Funke ,12.

It has been a month now since Shola became the branch manager of the bank she works with. She became much more busy at work, she had to have a change of heart on  not wanting to employ a maid. She sort the help of her childhood friend to get her a maid from the village . Little did she know the presence of the maid in her home will change their lives forever.

Ekaette-the maid, a very hardworking girl soon became the second mother in the house looking after the needs of the children and their father.

Shola was very pleased with the maid’s perfomance in the house and even the children loved her. After several months of working the with the Williams, Ekatte suddenly beacame ill and because of the tight schedule of Shola, she wanted her back on her feet in no time.   She promptly made arrangements for her to see their family doctor. It was at the hospital that she was discovered to have been 3weeks pregnant. Shola couldn’t believe her ears. She opted for a re-run of the test , that was because of the trust she has or should I say had in Ekaette. After several tests result, it was then established that Ekaette was indeed pregnanat. Shola became instantly disturbed and immediately knew the worst had happened. She then took a week casual leave at the office to sort out the whole issue.

Whose preganancy is it? Who got you pregnant? When? How? Where?. These were the unending questions Shola kept asking her, she even went as far as asking if she was raped. Ekaette on the other hand was just crying and refused to say a word. It was not until her parents came that she opened up. To everyone’s consternation, she’s been having multiple sexual relationship with Fola, Fola (jnr) , the driver and the gateman. 

As it is now, the paternity of the child cannot be ascertained, should the pregnancy be aborted or should she be allowed to give birth to the child ? Share your thoughts and views on this. ..
